Study: Inactivity, High BMI Linked to Back, Neck Pain

Physical inactivity and high body mass index are linked to an increased risk of chronic pain in the low back and neck, according to a report by the American Journal of Epidemiology.

The study found that those who exercised at least two hours a week and were not obese were less likely to develop chronic pain.

The authors recommended physical therapy as the first line of treatment, because it promotes flexibility and strength.
