Study: Chronic Pain in Adolescents Linked to Suicide Ideation

Adolescents experiencing chronic pain are more likely to contemplate suicide, according to new research published in The Journal of Pain.

Researchers from University of North Carolina, Duke University and Lehman College in New York analyzed data from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health to determine risk. Of the adolescents polled in 2009, 14 percent polled had seriously considered suicide and 6 percent attempted it.

The study shows like their adults counterparts, adolescents are more likely to contemplate suicide if they experience chronic pain.
