N.C. Program Treats Patients With Both Depression, Chronic Pain

A new program at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, N.C., treats patients suffering from both chronic pain and anxiety or depression, according to a report by the Pilot.

Program officials say patients with chronic pain frequently experience depressed and anxious moods related to their pain disorder.

The program, called Healing Experience for those Living with Pain, teaches patients stress-management practices and mindfulness skills. It is designed to help patients shift focus from seeking pain-relieving treatments to getting help for things they can do something about.
