CMS Postpones Ending Payments for Pain Pump Drug

CMS has postponed implementing a rule change that would stop reimbursing pharmacies for medications used in implanted pumps for chronic pain patients, according to a report by the Meridian Star.

CMS delayed the reimbursement change, which would have gone into effect June 29, after protests from several U.S. representatives. The old policy continues during a 45-day extension period as CMS sorts out future policy.

Pain physicians and pharmacists in Meridian, Miss., have written three Mississippi representatives asking them to help permanently repeal the planned reimbursement change.
