B. Braun Launches Upgraded Ambulatory and Pain Management Pump

A new ambulatory electronic infusion system, the Curlin 6000 CMS, has been introduced by B. Braun at the annual meeting of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. Made possible through B. Braun's distribution agreement with Curlin Medical, the Curlin 6000 CMS represents reliable, smart infusion technology with multiple therapy applications, says B. Braun.

The Curlin 6000 CMS is a comprehensive product that incorporates a convenient PCA pump with both PC and PDA connectivity, and state-of-the-art CMS (clinical management system) software. The system is an upgrade on the 4000 series: It comes equipped with IOD (information on demand) technology; is capable of delivering IV therapy using syringes, bottles or bags; and possesses a larger color screen. For added flexibility in hospital settings, the Curlin 6000 CMS offers multiple therapy modes beyond PCA, including TPN with ramp/taper, continuous and intermittent infusions in addition to PCA and epidural modes. In addition, built-on safety features include integral free flow protection from upstream occlusion detection, programmable medication limits, and verification and confirmation of dose changes before implementation. The system is designed to reduce therapy interruptions and catheter line complications, as well as improving flow accuracy, says B. Braun.

While the Curlin 6000 CMS is primarily useful for hospital pain management teams, it also provides advantages for outpatient surgery centers and home infusions. Further, it can be used not simply for drug administration, but also for event monitoring. The system gives healthcare professionals the ability to retrieve detailed, data rich reports based on the events stored in its log file. The report can indicate events, tampering or incorrect pump settings.
