Question: What is the biggest challenge for your orthopedic center today?
Dr. Vishal Mehta: My biggest challenges are getting adequately reimbursed for total joints, preparing for bundle payments and preserving referrals amidst the wave of hospital employment of primary care physicians.
Q: Where do you hope to grow for the next nine months?
VM: Outpatient total joint replacement, particularly if we can begin to do Medicare total knees in 2020.
Q: How do you approach budgeting for and selecting new technology for your center?
VM: New technologies are often introduced by our surgeons. They are then vetted and trialed with the goals of improving patient care and efficiencies as well as cost containment.
Q: What are your biggest payer challenges today?
VM: Successfully negotiating with the large payers in our region is always a challenge. The good news is that value and improvements in patient experience and outcome are on our side.
