In-Office vs. ASC Reimbursement for Moderate Sedation During Pain Management Procedures: Q&A With Amy Mowles of Mowles Medical Practice Management

Amy Mowles is president and CEO of Mowles Medical Management.

Q: We have a doctor who wants to do in-office pain procedures with fluoroscopy and have an IV in case the patient needs/requires moderate sedation. Does it make sense to do these in-office or best to have him do the procedures in the ASC? Can you get reimbursed for the IV if you don't ever give the patient moderate sedation?

Amy Mowles: Moderate sedation is carrier-priced in an office so yes, he can get paid for it.

He cannot get paid for the IV placement, though.
