Georgia City Wants Ban on Pain Management Clinics

The Peachtree (Ga.) City Council has been asked to ban pain management clinics, according to a news report by The Citizen.

The ban was requested by city staff, who believe pain management clinics are responsible for the "disreputable dispensing of narcotics prescriptions," according to the report. The ban would forbid pain management clinics from renewing their respective occupational tax licenses and would forbid new pain management clinics from obtaining licenses. Without a license, a business cannot operate in the city legally, according to the report.

The city staff requests that individuals wishing to open a business or medical practice through which pain medications would be prescribed be required to provide a signed, notarized statement that the business is not a pain management clinic, as defined by the city staff.

The proposed moratorium on pain management clinics would last for one calendar year to give city staff enough time to analyze the impact of pain management clinics and whether additional regulation is necessary.
