Community Health Center Grant to Support Pain Management Study

Community Health Center has received a $453,000 grant to support a new pain management study that would equip providers to manage chronic, long-term pain, according to a Hartford Business report.

According to Daren Anderson, vice president and chief quality officer of Community Health Center, evidence suggests that primary care providers have not been well-trained to manage pain in the past. The study will examine a care model touted by the VA which emphasizes a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to help patients with pain as well as provide tools and training to help PCPs managing pain more effectively.

The study will look at the feasibility of applying the care model outside the VA setting. A recent study in the Journal of the Medical Association estimated that lost productivity due to pain costs the United States $61.2 billion per year, according to the report.
