GE Healthcare inks deal to bring imaging device to spine practices, ASCs

GE HealthCare partnered with DePuy Synthes, Johnson & Johnson's orthopedic business, to make GE HealthCare's OEC 3D Imaging System more widely available to surgeons and patients nationwide.

The companies entered a distribution agreement aimed at adding GE's imaging technology to DePuy's range of medical products and services to advance orthopedic care, according to a June 21 press release from GE HealthCare.

The OEC 3D system is a CBCT system consisting of a surgical imaging C-arm that covers a wide area of the body and captures 3D volumes and high-definition 2D images during surgery. Additionally, the device provides features such as image analysis, noise reduction and interoperative review to assist clinicians in understanding a patient's condition, according to the release.

As ASCs perform more than half of all outpatient procedures in the U.S and the demand for minimally invasive spine surgery remains on the rise, the system is designed to bring greater precision and efficiency to surgical imaging in acute to outpatient settings.
