Ophthalmologist Duane Nelson, MD, has been recognized by Utah's Community Health Connect for his commitment to community service, according to a Daily Herald report.
Dr. Nelson practices out of Utah Valley Eye Center in Provo. He has donated time to help low-income and uninsured residents for more than seven years.
Community Health Connect, a non-profit health agency in Utah County that connects low-income, uninsured residents with volunteer health professionals, recognized the work of Dr. Nelson and several other providers at a recent baseball game.
Dr. Nelson has been in practice in Utah Valley since 1999, according to his bio. He received his MD from the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md., and completed his internship and ophthalmology residency at Naval Hospital in San Diego. He previously served as a general medical officer during Desert Storm and as a staff ophthalmologist at the Naval Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla.
