The least depressed physician specialty

While depression is on the rise among all physician specialties, one ASC specialty faces lower rates of depression than its counterparts, according to a Feb. 20 report from the American Medical Association based on a depression and burnout survey of 7,360 specialists.

Ophthalmologists report the lowest rates of depression, with 19.1% of specialists feeling depressed.

In comparison, urologists, the most depressed specialists, report rates of up to 38.5%.

Nearly 31% of surveyed physicians provided care to patients who had COVID-19 without adequate protective equipment. Additionally, 39.6% faced disruptions to their economic standing due to the pandemic, while 54.6% had at least one adverse occupational experience related to the pandemic.
