Ophthalmologist Dr. Jayne Weiss to Serve on National Advisory Eye Council

Ophthalmologist Jayne S. Weiss, MD, has been invited to serve on the National Advisory Eye Council, according to a news release.

 

Dr. Weiss, who received the invitation from Kathleen Sebelius, secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is professor and chair of the department of ophthalmology, Herbert E. Kaufman, MD Endowed Chair in Ophthalmology, and director of Louisiana State University Eye Center of Excellence at LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans.

 

Dr. Weiss will serve a four-year term.

 

Her principal clinical and research interests are corneal and external diseases, refractive surgery and corneal dystrophies. She has an interest in Schnyder's dystrophy that spans 18 years.

 

Dr. Weiss received her MD from Mt. Sinai Medical School. She completed a residency in ophthalmology at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at University of Miami School of Medicine followed by a fellowship in ocular pathology at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary of Harvard Medical School in Boston and a fellowship in cornea and external eye diseases at Emory University in Atlanta.
