Ophthalmologist Dr. George Spaeth Receives Glaucoma Foundation Award

Ophthalmologist George L. Spaeth, MD, has been named the 2012 recipient of The Glaucoma Foundation's Dr. Robert Ritch Award for Innovation and Excellence in Glaucoma, according to an Ophthalmology Times report.

 

Dr. Spaeth is the Louis J. Esposito Research Professor at Wills Eye Institute/Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, according to his bio. He received his MD from Harvard Medical School, interned at University of Michigan Hospital and completed a residency in ophthalmology at the Wills Eye Hospital. Dr. Spaeth served as director of the William and Anna Goldberg Glaucoma Service and Research Laboratories at the Wills Eye Institute/Jefferson Medical College from 1968 to 2007.

 

Robert Ritch, MD, is the founder of The Glaucoma Foundation. The Glaucoma Foundation presented its first award for excellence and innovation in glaucoma to Dr. Ritch in 2008. It was announced at that time that the award, to be given annually, was renamed the Dr. Robert Ritch Award for Excellence and Innovation in Glaucoma.
