Surgeons at the Mayo Clinic Arizona in Scottsdale have begun using Intense Pulsed Light therapy to treat chronic dry eye, according to a Health Canal report.
IPL is a targeted treatment for patients with a subset of dry eye called evaporative dry eye and who have exhausted other treatment methods, such as eye drops or doxycycline pills.
The light pulses heat eyelid glands that are blocked with stagnant secretions so a physician can manually express the material.
