The FDA recently approved Quantel Medical's Solutis selective laser trabeculoplasty glaucoma laser for clinical use.
Quantel's SLT technology has been used outside of the U.S. since 2007. However, until now, U.S. use was restricted because of a patent held by Massachusetts General Hospital, which recently expired.
SLT is used to reduce intraocular pressure in glaucoma patients. It's noninvasive and produces a regenerative response at the cellular level.
