CMS Proposes Permanent Reimbursement for Implantable Miniature Telescope

VisionCare has announced that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid has proposed to offer permanent reimbursement for the company's implantable miniature telescope.
VisionCare's implantable miniature telescope is the first FDA approved device designed to improve the vision of late stage age-related macular degeneration patients.

CMS intends to assign the device to the new Ambulatory Payment Classification 0351, Level VII Anterior Segment Eye Procedures. The mean cost would be calculated using claims data. If approved, the new APC will be effective Jan. 1, 2014.
