The American Academy of Ophthalmology has announced a partnership with the FDA designed to develop improved regulatory science for the approval process of medical devices for cataract patients.
On October 11 at the FDA headquarters, federal employees, clinicians, academicians and industry experts will gather for a workshop on the challenges of intraocular lens advancement.
Malik Kahook, MD, professor of ophthalmology and Slater Family Endowed Chair in Ophthalmology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver and Thomas Oetting, MD, professor of clinical ophthalmology at the University of Iowa College of Medicine in Iowa City and AAO trustee-at-large will moderate the workshop.
Paul Sternberg Jr., MD, president of the AAO; Jeffrey Shuren, MD, JD, director of the FDA Center for Devices and Radiological Health; and Malvina Eydelman, MD, director of the FDA division of ophthalmic and ENT devices will open the workshop.
