The Tennessee Academy of Ophthalmology has launched a pre-emptive attack on possible legislation that would allow optometrists to do surgical procedures, including some using lasers, according to a report by The Tennessean.
Ophthalmologists in Tennessee are worried legislators there will follow Kentucky, where a similar law passed earlier this year. Ophthalmologists warn that although laser surgeries seem simpler than those done with knives and scalpels, the consequences for a mistake are just as serious.
