Study: Patients With Retinal Disease More Likely to Suffer Strokes

New research has linked retinal vein occlusion to an increased risk for stroke, according to a report by the Archives of Ophthalmology.

 

The study found RVO patients had an almost twofold higher incidence of stroke but found they had no statistically significant risk of heart attack.

 

RVO, which occurs when veins in the retina are blocked, is common in patients with diabetes, high blood pressure and vascular disease.
