About one in every 11 deals offered on daily deal sites is now for a healthcare service — such as LASIK surgery and dental cleanings — according to data compiled by DealRadar.com and reported in USA Today.
Dan Hess, CEO and founder of Local Offer Network, which runs DealRadar.com, told USA Today that 9 percent of all daily deal offers in Nov. 2011 were for healthcare services — up from 4.5 percent at the beginning of 2011.
Gregg Feinerman, MD, an ophthalmologist who runs Feinerman Vision Center in Newport Beach, Calif., offered a 58 percent discount on Lasik eye surgery through Groupon. Usually he charges $5,000 for the surgery on both eyes, but the Groupon deal listed for $2,100.
Thomas Cho, 29, bought the offer because his insurance only covers 20 percent of the elective procedure. By purchasing the surgery through Groupon he saved more than $1,300.
