How healthcare is still suffering from the gender gap

Women account for more than three-quarters, 78 percent, of the healthcare workforce, but new data from a Rock Health report and JAMA study show that the field is still very much subject to the gender gap, according to a Fortune report.

Here are five statistics on gender gap in pay and leadership in the healthcare field.

•    34 percent of executives from the top 100 hospitals, as named by Truven Health Analytics, are women.
•    27 percent of seats on these hospitals' boards are held by women.
•    Male nurses earn an average of $5,100 more per year than female nurses.
•    Only one women, Heather Bresch of Mylan, is CEO of healthcare Fortune 500 company.
•    Only 6 percent of digital health start-ups that have raised at least $2 million since 2011 have female leaders.
