Florida ASC offers free eye surgery to patients in need

Jeffrey Levenson, MD, with the help of Riverside Park Surgery Center in Jacksonville, Fla., gave the gift of sight to a handful of Florida residents at the end of December, according to the Jacksonville Daily Record.

The altruistic ophthalmologist provided his services — a free cataract surgery — to six needy patients and the surgery center offered up its materials and surgery room space.
This wasn't Dr. Levenson's first year providing these gifts; he established a group known as "Gift of Sight" about 20 years ago in the Jacksonville area. Gift of Sight has given free surgery to about 200 cataract sufferers since then.
The event was also sponsored by Vision is Priceless, a nonprofit that annually offers vision screenings for about 35,000 people.
Dr. Levenson, who operates a practice bearing his surname in Jacksonville, is board certified in ophthalmology and is a fellow of the American Board of Ophthalmology. Jacksonville Magazine has named him one of the top ophthalmologists in the region.
