10 Statistics on Perioperative Nursing Compensation

The Association of periOperative Registered Nurses conducted its seventh online survey on salary and compensation of perioperative nurses. Data was collected from more than 4,900 individual respondents.

Average base compensation by job title and facility size:

1. Staff nurse
$65,400 at small facilities (10 or less ORs)
$67,100 at large facilities (more than 10 ORs)

2. Vice president/director/assistant director of nursing
$92,000 at small facilities (10 or less ORs)
$121,900 at large facilities (more than 10 ORs)

3. Nurse manager/team leader/business manager/coordinator/supervisor
$78,200 at small facilities (10 or less ORs)
$84,900 at large facilities (more than 10 ORs)

4. Clinical nurse specialist with a master of science degree or higher
$85,600  at large facilities (more than 10 ORs)

5. RN first assistant
$70,900 at small facilities (10 or less ORs)
$76,300 at large facilities (more than 10 ORs)

6. Acute-care hospital, general/community
Size (average number of ORs): 14
Average staff nurse base compensation: $64,700

7. Acute-care hospital, university/academic
Size (average number of ORs): 27
Average staff nurse base compensation: $72,400

8. Acute-care hospital, specialty
Size (average number of ORs): 18
Average staff nurse base compensation: $69,000

9. ASC, general/community
Size (average number of ORs): 13
Average staff nurse base compensation: $60,100

10. ASC, university/academic
Size (average number of ORs): 23
Average staff nurse base compensation: $70,500
