Portland, Maine-based Northern Light Mercy Hospital is beginning the review process for the second phase of its campus relocation project, the Portland Forecaster reports.
Five details:
1. Phase one, which wrapped up in 2008, included a 138,000-square-foot hospital and an 82,000-square-foot medical building on the Fore River campus in Portland.
2. Phase two calls for a large addition to the hospital building and a nearly 35,000-square-foot ASC.
3. The second phase was originally scheduled to begin shortly after the first one was completed, but Mercy delayed construction due to financial challenges. It still has strict budgetary constraints but is better positioned to start the second phase due to a "significant financial turnaround" over the past several years, Mercy's president said.
4. The hospital's goal is to move services from its State Street campus in Portland and consolidate them at the Fore River campus. It needs planning board approval to move forward.
5. David Small, a former member of the hospital's board of directors, said planning board approval is needed "to get rid of the redundancies and consolidate onto one campus."
