Houma, La.-based Cardiovascular Institute of the South broke ground Oct. 18 on a new ASC in Gray, La., Bayou Business Monthly reports.
Four details:
1. Expected to open by August 2020, the center will feature two outpatient catheterization labs, two ultrasound rooms, a medical lab, patient exam rooms and a recovery area.
2. The ASC will be equipped with lasers, a high-sensitivity vascular ultrasound system and multiple devices to treat peripheral vascular disease, which is increasingly prevalent in the region.
3. CIS physicians, including Craig Walker, MD, aim to train cardiologists from around the world at the new center.
"It's taken quite some time to get to this point," said Joey Fontenot, COO of CIS. "We think this is going to be a great new service for patients with low acuity peripheral vascular disease, and we're very pleased that it has finally started."
4. Meanwhile, CIS is expanding its office in Thibodaux, La., and doubling the size of its Baton Rouge, La., facility. The organization recently built an intensive cardiac rehab center in Lafayette, La.
