Illinois physician group requests public hearing on hospital's ASC proposal — 4 insights

Quincy (Ill.) Medical Group petitioned an Illinois review board to hold a public hearing about Blessing Health System's standalone ASC project, local NBC affiliate WGEM reports.

What you should know:

1. Quincy-based Blessing Health System operates a surgery center in a building owned by Quincy Medical Group. Blessing's lease with QMG doesn't expire until 2023, but system leaders have indicated they won't renew their lease at that time.

2. Blessing plans to instead to build a standalone surgery center near its main campus.

3. QMG requested the public hearing from the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board to learn more about the project and establish a forum on behalf of the community.

4. QMG recently received state permission to open a new surgery center in Quincy, which will compete with Blessing's existing center. Blessing repeatedly objected to QMG's new center while it was being considered.

"Blessing Health System welcomes the opportunity to share its vision for the future of outpatient surgical care through a public hearing and to hear the voices and vision of the public," said Maureen Kahn, MSN, RN, Blessing's president and CEO.
