A new eye surgery center is coming to Wilmington, N.C., in 2021, pending certificate of need approval, according to local news source WilmingtonBiz.
Wilmington Eye, a multispecialty ophthalmology group, brought a property in the town for $1.2 million for the ASC. The group currently performs eye surgery at hospital-based surgical facilities.
"In these hospital-based facilities, patients pay a much higher cost for their procedure, oftentimes for fees unrelated to their procedure, such as inpatient services and hospital-based overhead fees," Wilmington Eye surgeon Alan Oester Jr., MD, said in a news release. "The opening of Wilmington Eye's surgery center is going to greatly increase access to cutting-edge ophthalmic surgery at drastically reduced costs."
