Quincy (Ill.) Medical Group asked the Illinois Health Facilities & Services Review Board to delay a certificate-of-need hearing on Quincy-based Blessing Health System's proposed surgery center, WGEM reports.
What you should know:
1. QMG CEO Carol Brockmiller said QMG had questions about information Blessing had in its CON application. She wrote, "Our written comments to the Illinois Health Facilities Review Board reflect our position that Blessing should have to follow the rules of the process."
2. Attorneys representing QMG sent a letter to the state board claiming Blessing failed to submit some documents in support of its project, and that it also failed to include a "necessary party" as co-applicant.
3. QMG wants the board to delay when it considers Blessing's project so the public can review and comment on the required documentation.
4. Blessing currently operates a surgery center in a building owned by QMG. Blessing's lease with QMG doesn't expire until 2023, but system leaders have indicated they won't renew their lease at that time. QMG recently received state permission to open a new surgery center in Quincy, which will compete with Blessing's center.
