Athens, Ala.-based Athens-Limestone Hospital held a ribbon cutting ceremony for its new outpatient surgery tower Dec. 3, WAFF 48 reports.
Here are four details:
1. The $25 million facility opened in October after construction and licensing delays pushed back the anticipated summer opening.
2. Surgeons at the tower perform operations that allow patients to leave the same day.
3. The new, 75,000-square-foot tower is expected to operate at capacity within the next six months.
4. Athens-Limestone Hospital's original outpatient surgery complex was becoming overcrowded, according to Hospital President David Pryor.
"It's hard to keep up with volume," Mr. Pryor told WAFF 48. "This has been a wonderful stress relief to have this facility here. Now we can absolutely meet demand and actually grow into the future. "
