St. Louis-based Ascension reported outpatient volumes increased by 10 percent in the first quarter of fiscal year 2019 as compared to the same period last year, Healthcare Dive reports.
Here are three things to know:
1. On a same-facility basis, Ascension's volume declined for discharges, inpatient admissions, emergency room visits and inpatient surgeries.
2. Outpatient visits and outpatient surgeries both increased year over year. Outpatient services now represent nearly 53 percent of the system's overall patient revenue as Ascension focuses more on outpatient care.
3. Ascension's income from operations increased from $11.5 million in first quarter 2018 to $36.4 million in the first quarter of 2019, ended Sept. 30.
