Why ASC leaders plan quick exits

ASC leaders are less satisfied than in previous years with their role, and around one-third may exit their roles in the next year, according to OR Manager.

OR Manager surveyed 139 ASC leaders and found 30% said they were either dissatisfied or neutral with their current roles. Around one-third of ASC leaders said they plan to leave their roles within the next year, with the top reasons being:

1. Burnout: 22%
2. Lack of compensation and benefits: 21%
3. Management dissatisfaction: 14%
3. Poor work culture: 13%
4. New career opportunities: 13%
5. Too much work: 11%
6. Retirement: 8%
7. New education opportunities: 2%

OR Manager described "dangerous waters ahead" as survey respondents said staffing and burnout are still big issues for their surgery centers. One leader told the publication: "The new grads who have come out through COVID are not normal new grads. Many have not had sufficient clinical experience but are looking for fast track success. Many had options to take bonuses during COVID and feel their worth is more than tenured nurses who are burning out after training extremely inexperienced new grads."
