Independent Texas surgical practice could close after 3 surgeons leave — 4 insights

Three surgeons at Victoria (Texas) Surgical Associates are leaving the practice, the Victoria Advocate reports.

What you should know:

1. The departures, which will take place in the coming months, will leave the center with only three surgeons.

2. Two surgeons are leaving to join Victoria-based Citizens Medical Center Oct. 1. Another surgeon is moving to Missouri to serve as chief medical officer at Cape Girardeau, Mo.-based Southeast Hospital.

3. Surgeon John Barber, MD, told the Advocate that the practice would undergo changes. Practice administrator Patricia DeLeon said, "We may not be closing. There are still decisions to make."

4. Dr. Barber said the practice would announce the changes "soon."
