Lakewood, Colo.-based Pinnacle III's managed facilities adopted a technology-based policy management system, making critical guidelines readily accessible to ASC staff members, according to Clinical Education Director Jean Day.
Here are six takeaways:
1. If team members can't easily locate the policies relevant to their work, it can negatively impact patient care.
2. To prevent this issue, Pinnacle III provides immediate access to its surgery center policy through a technology-based policy management system.
3. The management company installed a clickable icon on every workstation that directs employees to policies.
4. System administrators make sure policies contain current, consistent and concise content. Policies may only be edited with permission.
5. Staff members underwent training and periodic in-services after the policy management system was implemented. They were quizzed on their ability to locate and read policies through the platform.
6. The software reduced employee frustration and gives leadership teams confidence personnel are following policies, according to Ms. Day.
