New Albany-based Central Ohio Surgical Institute Administrator Marcy DelVecchio, RN, told Becker's ASC Review how her center is handling evolutions, challenges and opportunities in healthcare.
Question: How has the ASC space evolved since you started your career in the industry?
Marcy DelVecchio: The ASC space has evolved to provide a more efficient flow and is definitely directed at patient safety and satisfaction.
Q: How do you think it will evolve in the next five to 10 years?
MD: Efficiency and the increased utilization of computerized systems. We utilize paper charts, which will most likely become obsolete.
Q: What are the biggest opportunities for ASCs in 2019?
MD: Hopefully increase in reimbursement and equalization of payments with hospital systems.
Q: How are major industry trends affecting day-to-day operations at your surgery center?
MD: Hospital-owned ASCs are very difficult to compete against in a saturated ASC market, as a freestanding ASC.
