6 statistics on physicians' beliefs about medical ethics

Medscape surveyed 5,250 physicians across 29-plus specialties about ethical decisions they make regarding patient care.

Here are six findings:

Should physicians be expected to devote some time each year to charitable cases or unpaid charitable work?

1. Yes: 34 percent
2. No: 50 percent
3. It depends: 16 percent

Is it ethical for physicians to discuss or describe their political beliefs to patients?

4. Yes: 23 percent
5. No: 43 percent
6. It depends: 33 percent
