UAMS welcomes new gastroenterologist to lead IBD program

Little Rock-based University of Arkansas Medical School is expanding its gastroenterology division with the addition of Mohammad Alomari, MD, who will lead the school's inflammatory bowel disease program and clinic.

Dr. Alomari comes to UAMS from Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, where he completed an advanced fellowship in inflammatory bowel disease, according to a Sept. 10 news release. He has co-authored several peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters and is a reviewer for journals including Crohn's & Colitis 360 and the World Journal of Gastroenterology.

"Dr. Alomari’s work with IBD will benefit UAMS and the state of Arkansas," said Mauricio Garcia, MD, chief of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the university. "He is the only expert in IBD in the state and will offer the only intestinal ultrasound evaluation for IBD patients in Arkansas. Having him on staff is a significant step toward improving the state of health in Arkansas."
