Three-quarters of bariatric surgery patients are not informed about their options to receive plastic surgery to remove excess folds of skin, according to an American Society of Plastic Surgeons news release.
In a study of 284 post-bariatric patients, 25 percent said they had discussed body contouring procedures with their bariatric surgeon, 14 percent were referred to a plastic surgeon for consultation and 11 percent had a body contouring procedure.
Almost 40 percent of respondents said they might have undergone plastic surgery had they received more information about it.
