Obesity Surgery Mortality Risk Score Predicts Risk From Bariatric Surgery

The Obesity Surgery Mortality Risk Score can predict a patient's risk for mortality as a result of bariatric surgery, according to a Bluepoint Surgical Group news release.

The group says that with recent studies demonstrating the effectiveness of such surgeries, the risk of serious complications can be ignored.

"Every surgery has inherent risks, but when the patient has underlying co-morbidities in addition to a BMI over 35, there is extra strain on the body," Denis Halmi, MD, medical director at Bluepoint Surgical Group, said in the release. "All risks and benefits should be carefully considered before proceeding with bariatric surgery."
