Lawrence Kosinski, MD, MBA, AGAF, FACG, is an established leader in the gastroenterology field. He is the managing partner of Illinois Gastroenterology Group, the result of the merger of six private GI practices. He is also a member of the governing board of the American Gastroenterological Association.
Dr. Kosinski is a force behind Illinois Gastroenterology's own care management tool, Project Sonar, which he believes to be his greatest accomplishment within the past few years. Through this care management tool the gastroenterology group was able to forge the first specialty intensive medical home program with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois. The intensive medical home program currently focuses on patients with Crohn's disease.
Project Sonar utilizes the practice's secure patient portal and smartphone technology that allows for open communication between Crohn's patients and physicians beyond face-to-face visits. Through this communication, physicians can assess how patients are doing and uncover larger trends in their condition. Ultimately, this system could dramatically decrease emergency department trips, hospitalization and disease complications.
Through Project Sonar, Dr. Kosinski and Illinois Gastroenterology Group have tackled one of healthcare's most pressing issues: accountable care.
