Gastroenterologist to know: Dr. Themistocles Dassopoulos of Baylor University Medical Center

Themistocles Dassopoulos, MD, is medical director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas.

Dr. Dassopoulos' clinical interests include Crohn's disease, general gastroenterology, inflammatory bowel diseases, ulcerative colitis, microscopic colitis and pouchitis. He has authored 40 original articles, 30 reviews, symposia lectures and editorials, seven book chapters and numerous abstracts. He also serves as editor for Inflammatory Bowel Diseases and Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

Previously, Dr. Dassopoulos served as an assistant professor of medicine at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and as an associate professor of medicine and director of the inflammatory diseases section at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

Dr. Dassopoulos earned his medical degree from Brown University in Providence, R.I., and completed his residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. He underwent his gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Chicago.
