Richard Rothstein, MD, has been appointed as the Joseph M. Huber Professor of Medicine and chair of the department of medicine for The Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth in Hanover, N.H., according to a news release.
Dr. Rothstein will immediately assume his new role. He has served as the interim chair of the department of medicine for the past year. He is also the associate dean for continuing medical education and professor of surgery at the Geisel School of Medicine.
Dr. Rothstein is a graduate of the Boston University School of Medicine, and completed his residency training in internal medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester.
He completed his fellowship training in gastroenterology at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover and joined the medical school faculty in 1985. Dr. Rothstein served as the section chief of gastroenterology and hepatology for 15 years.
He has a special interest in esophageal function and disease. His research has included the development of less invasive endoscopic therapies for the management of gastroesophageal reflux disease, Barrett's esophagus, and obesity.
