Gastroenterologist on the Move: Dr. Prabhakar Swaroop Directs New Crohn's and Colitis Program at UT Southwestern

Prabhakar Swaroop, MD, has been named director of the new Crohn's and Colitis program at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, according to a university release.

Dr. Swaroop serves as assistant professor of internal medicine at UT Southwestern. The new program is the only one of its kind in the Dallas area and provides comprehensive clinical care from physicians specializing in gastroenterology, colorectal surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, hematology, imaging and pediatrics.

In IBD, the walls of the digestive trait can become inflamed and irritated. With the correct treatment, these chronic diseases can be controlled with periods of remission. The two primary forms of the disease are Crohn's, which can affect any area of the digestive system, and ulcerative colitis, which affects the large intestine and rectum.

The Crohn's and Colitis Program gives thousands of IBD patients direct and immediate access to a wide range of specialists under one roof, without having to travel from physician to physician, according to the release.
