Gastroenterologist George T. Fantry, MD, has been appointed as assistant dean for student affairs, education and research in the offices of student affairs and student research at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, according to a news release.
In this role, Dr. Fantry will "oversee a comprehensive restructuring of the Office of Student Research, which will allow the School of Medicine to remain responsive to an increasing demand for student research education and training," according to the release.
Dr. Fantry is an associate professor. He currently serves as course director for Pathophysiology and Therapeutics I & II and co-course director for Functional Systems and Foundations of Disease. As a member of the division of gastroenterology, He also directs a multidisciplinary heartburn and dyspepsia program at the University of Maryland Medical Center.
Dr. Fantry earned his MD from the State University of New York Upstate Medical Center School of Medicine, completed both his internship and his residency in the department of medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center and completed fellowship training in the division of gastroenterology at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center.
