Dr. Matt Kruien recognized for GI research: 3 things to know

Matt Kurien, MD, was presented with the Julie Wallace Lecture Award from the Nutrition Society for his work concerning feeding tubes, News Medical reports.

Here's what you should know.

1. Dr. Kurien researched which patients benefit the most from feeding tubes, and provided guidelines for physicians to decide whether or not to use a tube.

2. The award recognizes early stage research concerning nutrition.

3. In his research, Dr. Kurien reviewed the benefits of treatment with the tubes, and looked at survival rates and quality of life to determine who would most benefit from a tube.
