Here is a list of statistics on the U.S. GI and endoscopic device market from Millennium Resource Group's report, US Markets for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Devices 2010.

1. In 2009, the U.S. market for GI endoscopic devices was valued at over $1.6 billion. This is an increase of nearly 5 percent from 2008.

2. Nearly 23 million procedures were performed with GI endoscopic devices in 2009. More than 60 percent of these were colonoscopies.

3. The fastest-growing segment of the U.S. GI endoscopic device market in 2009 was the Barrett's esophagus ablation device market, which will grow at a CAGR of nearly 18 percent from 2009-2014.

4. Virtual colonoscopies decreased by more than 7 percent percent in 2009 from 2008, but are expected to show notable growth over the next five years.

5. Flexible GI videoscopes were the largest segment of the GI endoscopic device market in 2009; while small bowel capsule endoscopes will grow at a CAGR of more than 16 percent from 2009-2014.
