Obese patients suffering from chronic kidney disease are still viable candidates for bariatric surgery, according to a study reported in Renal Business.
The study, to be printed in the upcoming issue of the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, found that patients with severe chronic kidney disease experienced complication rates of less than 10 percent following weight loss surgery.
Chronic kidney disease patients often experience a decreased capacity for exercise, and the study findings reveal bariatric surgery as a possible weight loss solution in these cases.
