New Apps, Technology Focus on Medical Efficiency

Tech developers are responding to the evolving model of health care with new innovations that focus on technological efficiency, according to a New York Times report.

"We are about to see a fundamental transformation in the way care is delivered and the way patients are engaged with that care," said Frank Moss, head of the New Media Medicine Group at the M.I.T. Media Lab.

Among the innovations are technology that transmits data from E.K.G. machines, ventilators and fetal heart monitors to a physician's smartphone or tablet, enabling remote access and tracking; a personal mobile finance tracker enabling patients to manage health information; and a program enabling physicians to collaborate by sharing photos of and information about a patient's problem on a secure website.
