A recent survey reveals that nearly all practicing nurses want more education and training in 'soft skill' areas such as leadership and interpersonal communication.
The survey reported that while most nurses feel they are lacking in these areas, nearly 80 percent of nurse managers are seeking graduates with professional, informatics, communication and leadership skills.
The problem appears to stem from medical training, as 82 percent of practicing nurses said they did not feel completely prepared for the day-to-day work of nursing when they graduated from nursing school. Nearly half wanted more training in informatics, while 38 percent wished they received more training in leadership and 26 percent wanted more training in communication.
