American Nurses Association President Karen Daley, PhD, RN, this week informed a congressional committee that there is an urgent need to develop a stronger nursing workforce to fill a projected 1.2 million nursing jobs that will open within the next decade, according to a DOTmed News report.
"Cuts to Title VIII funding would be detrimental to the health care system and could jeopardize patient care," Ms. Daley said. "I am concerned that Title VIII funding levels have not been sufficient to address the growing nursing shortage."
Ms. Daley also noted the anticipated influx of Baby Boomers enrolling in Medicare, causing a 50 percent increase in enrollment by 2025. The demand for nursing care will increase significantly as a result, she said.
